Professional career

Mauricio is “Of Counsel” in BAYLOS since 2014. He has previously been an academic advisor in CUATRECASAS. He is specialised in Intellectual Property Rights, Competition Law, Company Law and commercial agreements. He has advised companies in several sectors such as real estate, banking, energy and telecommunications.
He has coordinated the project E-Learning on Patent Litigation of the European Patent Academy (European Patent Office, Munich) (2013) and has collaborated at the Max- Planck-Institut für Innovation und Wettbewerb, Múnich, where he has participated in the Working Group on the Declaration on Patent Protection - Regulatory Sovereignty under TRIPS (2011 – 2014).

  • Bachelor's Degree in Law by the University of Alicante (1989).
  • PhD in Law by the Università degli Studi di Bologna, as scholar of the Real Colegio de España in Bolonia, with the mark 110 su 110 e lode (summa cum laude). Directors of the Thesis: Prof. Dr. Cándido Paz-Ares and Prof. Dr. Vito M. Mangini (1993). Scholarship at the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, from the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD), the Italian Government and the Irish Government.
  • Member of the Advisory Board of the Italian Law Journal, Edizioni Scientifiche Italiane. He also collaborates at the Max-Planck-Institut für Innovation und Wettbewerb, Munich
  • Member of the Ilustrious Professional Association of Lawyers in Madrid

He has obtained the First National Award of Bachelor Degrees in Law (1988 – 1989); the Extraordinary Complutense Award of Bachelor Degrees and Diplomas, Department of Legal Social Sciences (1988 – 1989) and Extraordinary Award of Bachelor Degree at the Faculty of Law (1989)


Author of several publications in Competition Law, Intellectual Law, Company Law and Contracts Agreement. Amongst which the following monographs outstand: Competition Law in Spain (con P. Fernández Pérez), ed. Wolters Kluwer, Alphen aan den Rijn, NL, 2018; E-Learning on Patent Litigation (with Michael Fysh (eds.), European Patent Office, Munich, 2015; “Seizure of shares of a public limited company (S.A.) and holdings of a private limited company (S.L.)”, Civitas, Madrid, 2005; “Compulsory transfer of shares and holdings of a limited company (S.L.) and restrictive clauses”, Civitas, Madrid, 2004.


University Lecturer of Mercantile Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid since 1995 where he teaches IP Law, Competition Law, Company Law, mercantile agreements and Institutions of Company Law.
He has been a Visitor Teacher at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and the Università degli Studi di Padova and Gastwissenschaftler at the Max-Planck-Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law (München), Ludwig-Maximilians- Universität München, Rheinischen and Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität in Bonn.
He has given lectures and seminars in many universities and legal institutions in Europe, USA and Asia, amongst which the following are included: Hong Kong University, National University Singapore, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, Academia Sinaca Institutum Iurisprudentiae, Taiwan, Chicago-Kent College of Law, Marquette University, Max-Planck-Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law, Università degli Studi “Roma Tre” Università degli Studi di Lecce y Università degli Studi di Ferrara.
