Mauricio Troncoso

PROFESSIONAL CAREER:

Mauricio Troncoso has been an Of Counsel at BAYLOS since 2014. He was previously an academic advisor for CUATRECASAS. He specialises in Intellectual Property Rights, Competition Law, Company Law and commercial agreements. He has advised companies in several sectors such as real estate, banking, energy and telecommunications.

Mauricio was the coordinator for the “E-Learning on Patent Litigation” project of the European Patent Academy (European Patent Office, Munich) (2013) and has collaborated with the Max- Planck-Institut für Innovation und Wettbewerb, Múnich, where he participated in the Working Group on the Declaration on Patent Protection - Regulatory Sovereignty under TRIPS (2011-2014). Mauricio is the Professor for the course “Expert in Corporate Governance and M&A Operations” at the UAM.

He has been a Guest Professor at the Humboldt Universität zu Berlin and at the Università degli Studi di Padova and Gastwissenschaftler at the Max-Planck-Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law (München), Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München, Rheinischen Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität at Bonn. He was also awarded a grant from the Alexander von Humboldt Stiftung, from the Deutsche Akademische Austauschdienst (DAAD), the Italian Government and the Irish Government; he has given talks at conferences and seminars in a number of universities and legal institutions throughout Europe, USA and Asia, including Hong Kong University, National University of Singapore, Shanghai Institute of Foreign Trade, Academia Sinaca Institutum Iurisprudentiae, Taiwan, Chicago-Kent College of Law, Marquette University, Max-Planck-Institute for Intellectual Property, Competition and Tax Law, Università degli Studi “Roma Tre” Univesità degli Studi di Lecce, Univesità degli Studi di Ferrara and Univesità degli Studi di Firenze.

 

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from the Complutense University of Madrid (1989).

  • PhD in Law from the Università degli Studi di Bologna, as a scholarship holder of the Royal College of Spain in Bologna, being awarded 110 su 110 e lode (summa cum laude). Thesis Supervisors: Prof. Dr. Cándido Paz-Ares and Prof. Dr. Vito M. Mangini (1993).

RECOGNITIONS / ASSOCIATIONS:

  • Mauricio was awarded the First National Award in Law Studies (1988-1989), the Extraordinary Complutense Award for Bachelor’s and Undergraduate Degrees. Field of “Legal and Social Sciences” (1988-1989) and the Extraordinary Bachelor’s Degree Award from the Law Faculty (1989).

  • Mauricio is an honorary Member of the Società Italiana degli Studiosi del Diritto civile. He also works with the Max-Planck-Institut für Innovation und Wettbewerb, Munich, and is a member of the Madrid Bar Association.

Mauricio is the author of a number of publications related to Competition Law, Industrial Property and Company Law and Contract Law. They include the case studies Competition Law in Spain (with P. TEACHING

University Lecturer of Commercial Law at the Autonomous University of Madrid since 1995, where he teaches Industrial Property Law, Competition Law, Company Law and commercial contracts and Commercial Law Institutions, Professor for the course “Expert in Corporate Governance and M&A Operations” at the UAM.
